We make community events the way a theatre company mounts a show — planned, built, rehearsed, and cared about.
Houndstooth Works LLC is a small event-production studio in Portland. We put on our own recurring community events, and we help other organizations put on theirs.
A studio built around the gathering
Houndstooth Works started in Portland from a simple conviction: that community events deserve the same craft as any professional production. A room, a stage, a schedule, and everyone who walks through the door — all of it is work worth doing properly.
We began by producing our own recurring gatherings for the furry and LGBTQ+ communities of the Pacific Northwest, and grew into a studio that also produces and advises on events for other organizations. The two sides feed each other: running our own keeps us honest about what good production actually feels like from the floor.
Everything we make is held to the same standard. Plan carefully. Build well. Treat every person who shows up as a guest.
What we're for
To make community events with real craft — and to make attending one feel considered, safe, and easy to be yourself in.
Built here
Most of what we make happens here, and the city shapes it: venues that are something else by day, load-ins through back alleys and up stairs, nine months a year when the weather is a production problem, and a scene that has always built its own thing rather than waiting for permission.
How we hold the room
Our events are for everyone, and they only work if everyone feels safe in them. These commitments are not fine print — they shape every floor plan, every hire, and every decision we make.
Consent, always
Participation is a choice at every turn. We design our events and our conduct standards so attendees stay in control of their own experience.
Anti-harassment
Harassment of any kind is not tolerated. Every event is staffed with trained, approachable people and clear, published standards of conduct.
Easy to walk into
Our events are built to be good public gatherings — celebratory, legible to someone who has never been to one, and easy to feel at home in.
